How To Change The PHP Version Of Your cPanel

Certainly, they are not an answer to everything. The key feature of a website generator lies in universality. In principle, they should meet the requirements and expectations of the majority. When it comes to situations when you require something special or unique, this isn’t the option for you. What’s more, often the builders fail to provide all the essential stuff free.

Certainly, the layout of the cPanel of hosting companies varies. That is why some may find this article useful while some may not. However, if you are in the category of persons who find this article in useful may be because the layout of your cPanel varies from what we have here or you are confused perusing the article, we request you kindly solicit our help through the contact form provided on our contact page. This article was written with screenshots from the LiteSpeed server(cPanel) and hope many will certainly find it useful, however if the reverse is the case, get in touch with us as mentioned above.

The cPanel is the framework that houses all your website files and folders including but not limited to CMS installation, backups, SSL certificates, database, domains, etc.

The cPanel and Domain name are complementary. Your website will not be visible in the internet when cPanel is exempted. Likewise, your website cannot be accessed without a registered domain name. Sometimes you don’t buy hosting because you need it but because you need a domain name. Again, we can summarily say they are derived.

Over the years, we progressively moved from one PHP version to another. Many thanks to the developers working backend to ensure PHP never become obsolete and continuous improvement.
From PHP version 4.4 – 7.3 the scope may still be the same but there are obvious changes in each version released.

Changing your cPanel PHP version may trigger uncertainties. For example if your current PHP version is 4.4 and you are updating to version 7.2 or 7.3, it is likely you will observe tremendous changes. Though we recommend you update to PHP version 7.0 – 7.3, however you should read the overview of each version you wish to update to.
You can always reverse back to previous PHP version if preferred though some features of the cPanel may not work.

To update to any PHP version of your choice, kindly follow the steps below.
First, login to your cPanel account which we are quite sure you know how to do. If you don’t know the login URL for your cPanel account, contact your hosting provider for help or you can easily bypass the delay by entering visiting www.yoursitename.com/cPanel. That will automatically redirect you to the cPanel login page. Make sure you replace “yoursitename” with your actual website address. Hope you understand?

You have logged in successfully, navigate downward your cPanel dashboard and click “Select PHP version”. See screenshot below.
